The REZ (Reduced Emission Zones) begun in 2011, operating on weekdays between 07h and 21h, and comprehends two zones:
Zone 1 (Vehicles as of 2000)
Marquês de Pombal area | Avenida da Liberdade | Downtown | Terreiro do Paço: Only allowed light-duty vehicles manufactured after January 2000 and weighed after October 2000.
Zone 2 (Vehicles from 1996)
Limited to south of Ceuta Avenue | North-South route | Forças Armadas Avenue | EUA Avenue | Marechal António Spínola Avenue | Infante Dom Henrique Avenue: light-duty vehicles manufactured after January 1996 and weighed after October 1996.

What are the vehicles that cannot be driven in the centre of Lisbon?
European standards set a maximum limit for the emission of pollutants from vehicles, assessing each car according to the age, type and type of fuel they use.
Based on this criteria, the REZs were implemented in two zones of the city. In the first zone, it is forbidden to drive cars with license plates prior to the year 2000 and in the second one vehicle manufactured before 1996.

How does REZ (Reduced Emission Zones) monitoring in Lisbon work?
Vehicle Emission inspection check points are carried out randomly, at certain locations inside the REZ (Reduced Emission Zones) in Lisbon. And are always enforced by the PSP (Portuguese police) and the Municipal Authorities.
